Unfortunately, it’s not a good idea to get a massage if you’re sick, and you should wait until an illness has run its full course. Massage can slow down the normal healing of the body and hinder your body’s ability to combat an infection. Plus, lying face-down for an extended period of time can exacerbate congestion.
Massage moves waste and pathogens through your lymphatic system, so you may actually feel much sicker post-massage, especially if you are just coming down with a cold. It can also be painful, as your body is often more sensitive to touch when you’re sick and you don’t want to add any additional inflammation.
Postponing a massage until you're in good health not only benefits you, but also ensures the health and well-being of our dedicated therapists.
